C.V.M.A. - Italia
The Italian C.V.M.A. committee (C.V.M.A. - Italia) is an academic enterprise warranted by the "Unione Accademica Nazionale" (U.A.N. – Roma); and represented by the U.A.N. for the "Union Acadèmique International" (U.A.I.). On the base of his statute the CVMA- Italia is engaged in the safeguard of the Italian stained glass patrimony, an inheritance very important for the windows number and quality. Therefore the CVMA-Italia endeavours to promote the restoration of the damaged or tottering windows, suggesting the "C.V.M.A. Guideline" rules, and collaborating with the Soprintendenze and with the stained glass workshops whose professional training is appreciable.
The scientific activity of the C.V.M.A. –Italia is supported by some authoritative academies as the Istituto Lombardo Accademia di Scienze e Lettere in Milano, at which are the CVMA residence and library; the Accademia delle Arti e del Disegno in Florence whose president Prof. Francesco Adorno is the honorary President of the C.V.M.A. - Italia; the C.N.R. Area della Ricerca with which the C.V.M.A. –Italia engaged in researches. Several are the restorations, the expositions, the congress promoted by the C.V.M.A. –Italia: as the "XVIIIth International Colloquium C.V.M.A. 1995" in Siena - Certosa di Pontignano; and the joined exposition" Vetrate della cattedrale di Pisa" in Pisa.
Recently (Lucca, september 1999) the C.V.M.A. – Italia promoted with the Istituto Storico Lucchese and the Scuola Normale di Pisa the seminar "La vetrata in occidente dal IV all’XI secolo"; therefore it has been created an archaeological section for recording the excavations of the early medieval west window glass.
